Weigh in news from big Chester bill

The weigh in took place today for the hotly anticipated British lightweight title eliminator between Chester’s Chris Goodwin (14-1-1) and Yorkshire warrior Carl Johanneson(31-5 20KO).

Dai Davies Paul Economides weigh in

The chief supporting contest will see Chester’s own ‘Spartan’ Paul Economides (12-2) face off against Dai Davies(8-18-1 1KO) [pictured] for the Welsh featherweight title.

The fights will take place on Saturday 3rd March at Chester’s Northgate Arena.

Both main event fighters looked in prime condition as firstly Goodwin, then Johanneson scaled in at 9st 8lbs. Goodwin looked his usual relaxed self, like he was getting ready for a night in front of the telly rather that the fight of his life. Johanneson on the other hand looked keen to get the weigh in done and move on to fight night. Carl has always looked more at home in the ring, as his 31 victims will testify.

The fight promises to be one of the biggest crossroads encounters of the year. The young prospect Goodwin against the experienced former champion in Johanneson. It is a battle that needs no hype.

The boxing community is split down the middle on this one. Some think that this will be too early for Goodwin, that he is not quite ready for the big step up.

Others think that this could be a brilliant piece of matchmaking. They feel that at 33, Johanneson may be just be past his peak and that a young hot-shot could really make a name for himself by beating the former super-featherweight champion.

Johanneson definitely seemed ready for battle. He claimed to have ‘no worries about coming to Chester’ and that he was ‘very confident of victory’.

We have only 24 hours to wait. All questions are soon to be answered.

The ever confident Economides scaled in at 8st 13lbs and looked in great nick. Dai Davies, who earlier in the week told BoxRec News that he was ‘a stepping stone for nobody’ showed first hand that he was focused on this fight by coming in at a ripped 9st.

Two time British Masters champion Economides dreams of big nights and major titles. But if that is to become reality, then he must defeat Davies, a man who holds a crushing victory over Robbie Turley, a man who has beaten Economides.

This looks like a mouth watering encounter not to be missed.

So all the talking is done. Will it be the silky skills of Goodwin or the punch power of Johanneson? We will find out tomorrow.

Chester can hardly wait.
